History

It all began during the first nine days of August 1907 on Brownsea Island, Dorset. Lord Baden-Powell held an experimental camp to try out his ideas and brought together 20 boys from a variety of backgrounds.

We are proud to be part of the County that Scouting was born in and today Wareham and Isle of Purbeck Scouts offers fun, challenge and adventure to over 500 boys and girls aged between 4 and 25.

We enable young people from every background to reach their full potential through the unique experience of Scouting. They get the chance to enjoy new activities, make friends, develop skills, and make a positive impact in their communities.

Over 200 adult volunteers (there’s room for more!) help make Wareham and Isle of Purbeck Scouting amazing in a diversity of ways; either by working directly with our young people or by helping manage a Group by being a charity Trustee. Dorset Scouts supports its volunteers so they can get the most out of their experiences by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.
